This summer we had our first ever summer camp in the south of Poland (Lwówek Sląski). One hundred people from desperate situations as well as volunteers participated in our “Abundant Life” themed camp. Throughout the week a range of activities were organised for both adults and children. Our volunteers did a great job with organizing various fun activities for kids such as football tournaments, yoga and gymnastic classes, artwork workshops, treasure hunts and many more. There were also excursions to the mountains, a swimming pool, a petting zoo, and the Boleslawiec pottery museum. In the evenings we had camp fires where testimonies were shared, songs were sung, theatrical performances were given, and most importantly, marshmallows were eaten. :-) Parents and adults also had the opportunity to participate in Bible study meetings. The camp was a great opportunity for everyone to take a break from their day to day problems and routine in a peaceful and joyful environment. It was also an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better and work together to create a good atmosphere. It was definitely a win-win situation for both the families and volunteers! We hope that our first ever WVM Summer Camp, will be one of many!

Below are some reflections on the camp;

“In my opinion the trip was a perfect idea. Since I moved out of the unofficial homeless shelter and have been staying at the crisis intervention centre, I have been experiencing a continual fight for my son, Kasjan’s, psychological health. Kasjan isn’t able to understand why we’re in the situation we’re in and this is evident in his behaviour. This trip has allowed him and all of us to have a break, and for a week, forget about the specific places we are in. As I found out that I will be receiving a social apartment, the camp was the ideal place for us to be while we wait to move in. It also provided the possibility to rest from our daily problems. In my opinion the camp was a great success and I hope that there will be a similar trip organized next year.”

“The camp put on by Warsaw Volunteer Mission was the perfect place for fun and faith to intersect.”
